The Classification and Coding of wastes, Price: £84

Subject: Waste Management

Price: £84

This two-module course is accredited by the Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) and provides an overview of the classification and coding of wastes and identifies the procedure to be followed when determining whether mirror-entries within the European Waste Catalogue (EWC) are hazardous or non-hazardous. Those completing this course should have an understanding of the principles of classification and the steps that must be undertaken to fully classify mirror entries within the EWC.

It will be relevant to all those wishing to familiarise themselves with the principles of waste classification using the European Waste Catalogue and other relevant legislation and guidance, and is relevant to those working in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The first module takes you through the use of the EWC in determining whether wastes are non-hazardous or hazardous, and if the latter, whether the hazardous material is best described as an absolute entry (which will always be hazardous) or whether it is a so-called mirror-entry, in which case further work will be required in order to fully classify the waste.

Module two then describes the step-by-step process that must be undertaken to determine whether a hazardous or non-hazardous mirror entry code should be chosen. The course has been updated in the light of GHS and new guidance (WM3) issued by Regulators.
